Micheline Heal is a multidisciplinary artist in the performing arts. After studying traditional Chinese dance for ten years, she found her way to contemporary modern dance where she fell in love with choreography, partnering, and acrobatic movement. Her interest in narrative-driven interdisciplinary performance led her to pursue an MFA in Musical Theater at The Boston Conservatory.
Well, really she’s always loved musicals.
As a emerging choreographer on contemporary modern, she garnered a number of honors as a young artist and has been frequently curated into festivals across the country. She is a featured artist in national service organization Fractured Atlas’s Artful.ly campaign and received a 2011 Young Artist Grantee from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the youngest artist of twelve selected that year who created work in a wide range of mediums. She has been granted two residencies at the Firkin Crane in Cork, Ireland – the first as one of twelve artists including Kyle Abraham, the second as one of five artists selected. She is the youngest artist the Firkin Crane has ever granted their Blank Canvas residency to and continues to maintain a relationship with the center. Her choreography and dance films have been shown at venues and festivals across the country. Venues by location include:
NYC: CoolNY Festival, Dumbo Dance Festival, Center for Performance Research, Amalgamate Artist Series, Figment Festival, Suite Summer Festival, NYC Dance Arts Festival.
Washington DC : Stages of Healing Series (curated alongside the Liz Lerman Dance Exchange), DCWEEK at Arena Stage (commission furbished by Ford Motors), Art Soiree at The Washington Club (in a curated feature of female artists in DC), Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, The Warehouse.
Other locations: The Scatterdance Festival (Chicago), MI (RADFest), and NC (American Dance Festival’s Movies by Movers).
Additionally, she has supported the careers of other artists by serving on the Artist’s Committee for National Choreography Month (Nachmo) for 2 years and working as an administrator in artist representation for both Elsie Management and John Gingrich Management.
